What are college students thinking?

Disclaimer: This post is not really funny except for the fact that people are taking Ron Paul SERIOUSLY.

The popular networking website Facebook.com has an application that allows users to vote for their favorite presidential candidate. The Election '08 feature has tallied 219,001 votes as of 8:53 p.m. 9/17/07. So far the results are:

1. Barack Obama 25% (55,724 votes)
2. Rudy Giuliani 9% (20,318 votes)
3. Hillary Clinton 8% (18,411 votes)
4. Ron Paul 7% (16,845 votes)
5. Fred Thompson 5% (11,128)

It's interesting to see what college students think and even more that Ron Paul is on the top five. We will see if college students actually show up to vote though.

(PD Adds: Does anyone really think it's interesting what college students think? I don't. I guess I could be interested to know if they do think at all. They don't vote and no matter how many times we hear that the youth are invigorated in this election it rarely turns out to be true. This concludes my "bitter old man" rant. Thank you...I'll be playing dominoes at the Petticoat Junction later this week.)

You have a nice day too!

Paul is 20-1 odds to win the president. He's the 8th highest candidate.

Not too bad for a guy that people don't take seriously. ;)

I've only been in college a year and I'm already sick of college students.

I remember seeing some numbers on this: if Facebook support had been an accurate predictor of votes in the '06 governor's race, Kinky would have finished first or second.

PD, you hit it on the nose. College students suck because they dont vote. Also, they suck because they dont have jobs and arent productive. Shit, I need to graduate...

Zander, instead of ranting how Paul has no chance (most people no this) think about what this means. Of the two R's to finish in the top five (the top finishing Rs) are the anti-establishments libertarian, Ron Paul, and anti-establishment conservative, Fred T. Its not unusual for college students to be anti-establishment and go against the grain (even on the right), but many of these kids were supporting Bush 4 years ago. There is a fundamental shift in the youth of the GOP versus the entirety of the party. Youngsters---once they graduate, get jobs, own homes and start voting---are going to start voting and remind Republicans that they are suppose to be for limited government.

txrichman -

Did you not see Rudy at #2? Also, how is Fred T the anti-establishment conservative? He's attempting to be the incarnate word of the right.

College kids have always been anti-establishment. Not one of them knows a single thing. It's tantamount in their mind of sitting at the goth table in high school. "Look at me, I'm so deep, I wear black nail polish and say I'm libertarian because I think it makes me cool."

It's nonsense.
