Pitts v. Craddick - Predictions

The House of Representatives convenes in 15 hours. Place your bets in the comments section on who'll be elected speaker. My prediction? Tom Craddick 1 - Carter Casteel 147. Everyone remember to look at her box tommorrow during the balloting.

In the event of some sort of legislative maneuvering in which the race is decided on some random procedural vote and someone is elected in an overwelming majority, we'll figure out a way to declare me the winner.

Aww, I miss Carter.

This race is just a ruse to hide the true outrage, the new menu at the Capitol Grille. The Chicken Salad plate is gone! The Express Lunch today was a damn ham sandwich! Fancy new signs and a choice of "spreads" at the deli counter don't justify big price hikes.

Why is the media and blogosphere afraid of the RK Group? We demand answers!

Hungry - thanks for your blog. I had no idea things were that bad at the Capitol Cafe. Forget the Speaker's race. That's not important right now. Something must be done! No chicken salad plate? That's the only reason people work at the Capitol. Unite with me and let's change the cafeteria rules! Who's with me?! YAAAAAH!!!

plain spoken at January 8, 2007 9:07 PM

You know what else? Larry told me that during session everybody gets served much smaller portions. All those damn lobbyists and school groups create a demand that strains the supply.

Oh how I miss the interim.

RawHide at January 8, 2007 9:12 PM

also, none of you have made predictions, which was the point of this post.

/the grapes in the chicken salad are gross.

RawHide at January 8, 2007 9:13 PM

oh sorry about not sticking to the subject......uh........Craddick is the grape of the Chicken Salad Plate. We will have new grapes...uh...with pitts, I guess (or seeds, whatev)

plain spoken at January 8, 2007 9:21 PM

Probably Craddick unless Carter Casteel shows up outside the House Chamber to remind members how she was treated voting for her district and her conscience.

I can't believe you said to look at Carter Casteel's box. Nobody has looked down there in 30 years.

Pitts! The You Tube video is Craddick's smoking gun--he ain't got the votes!!!

tidbit at January 8, 2007 9:57 PM

you guys are terrible at predicting. i'm going back to my gin and olive dinner.

RawHide at January 8, 2007 10:07 PM

Pitts 82, Craddick 65, Rose 1 (voted for himself)

the wizard at January 8, 2007 10:26 PM

Rose doesn't have enough support to receive a second. A candidate without a seconding nomination is out of order. At least so long as the house doesn't complete ignore reasonable parlimentary rules as it has done the past four years.

I bet pitts. But it may be real damn close. I just hope some these damn "pragmitist" democrats start acting like statesmen and vote on principle. Forgive the cheese, but principled stands lead to better policy than demagoguery and tyranny.

pericles at January 8, 2007 10:47 PM

I'm going to say Pitts by an extremely thin margin.

I'll go further and predict most of the dems on the Youtube video get primary challengers with about 5 of the 14 getting ousted (another 2 retire due to the high turnover of the state legislature). If at the end of all things dems get another 2-3 seats in '08 they just might get the balls to launch their own speaker challenge to Pitts.

Craddick...but that You Tube thing mught be enough to strenghten the resolve of enough shaky Reps for him to lose it.

pericles --

It was a joke. Get used to them

the wizard at January 9, 2007 9:42 AM

If it actually makes it to a contested vote:

Pitts 85
Craddick 63
