Republican leadership in D.C. has essentially abandoned any hopes of passing comprehensive immigration reform before the election. So what do they turn to instead? Per the Times:
... Pentagon and domestic security spending bills, port security legislation, and measures that would authorize the administration's terror surveillance program and create military tribunals to try terror suspects.Yes! Perfect idea. Let's see here: spending bills = cut'n'run Democrats. Port legislation = err ... selling control of port security to foreign companies. Hmm. Authorization of surveillance program = domestic spying.
Oh, shit ... they've got nothing, man. Lord knows they've proven extremely adept at national security issues over the past few months. Great thing to highlight leading into the election.
