In Sunday's Houston Chronicle:
Hundreds of millions in taxes and fees that were earmarked for specific purposes such as state parks, emergency medical services and even dogs and cats have been moved around by lawmakers to meet other needs.Nice, the Texas Legislature is the Enron of politics. We are so lucky. While Jeff Skilling is going to prison, Texans are lining up to vote for people like Rick Perry and Tom Craddick.
Why do we crucify the businessmen and let the politicians off the hook? In my dream world, we could prosecute politicians for breaking campaign promises. It would be a felony to put amendments on a bill just to kill it on the floor. And, of course, there would be a minimum fine of $500 imposed every time Warren Chisum opened his big stupid mouth.
