What do you know - Straybell Strayhorn managed to steal Bell's thunder once again.
Yesterday, Bell received the endorsement of the 200,000-member Texas AFL-CIO. This would presumptively lead to some decent headlines and positive press for Bell. But the Statesman article I linked to above mentions it only after talking about how Strayhorn turned in over 223,000 signatures for her petition to get on the November ballot. Granted, that is news, but the fact remains that Strayhorn managed to push him out of the limelight once again.
I stand by my call for the creation of a hybrid, super-candidate.
Oh, and one more thing: the article quotes Strayhorn as saying that the AFL-CIO endorsement was "saucered and blown." Am I the only person that had never heard this saying before? It sounds like one of those weird sexual activities that are listed in forwarded emails along with the Cleveland steamer or dirty sanchez.
Or maybe that's just me.

It is a rather obscure saying. As I recall - saucered & blown generally means a back room deal settled over cups of coffee. It refers to an old tradition of pouring your coffee into the saucer and blowing on it to cool it off. It was poured into the saucer so that the coffee grounds stayed in the cup. Haven't heard it since the 70s. Haven't seen it done since Mr. Coffee was invented.
