Yes, I am quoting a Rockwell song from the 80s. USA Today (yeah, I know!) actually broke a story that three major telecom companies are sharing your phone call records with the NSA. I say yours, because I don't have a landline. Haha, suckers!
In all seriousness, this is dire news. Just listening in on calls isn't enough, the government also needs to know when you call your momma (have you called your momma lately?), when your boyfriend calls you to break up, and when you call for certain "companionship" needs.
So remember, Big Brother isn't just watching you, he's also listening in . . . quite closely.
Hey, Miss Bluebonnet. I don't think this is limited to landlines. My understanding is they're also providing wireless phone info. *&JFI()% Verizon, my carrier, who I have been quite fond of even if they are a giant conglomerate because of their good coverage and customer service, has this to say:
"We do not comment on national security matters, we act in full compliance with the law and we are committed to safeguarding our customers' privacy."
Ahem. That last part? Not so much. I'm writing a letter now.
DMW/P is right... you're with the rest of us, BB!
DAMN it.
hmmmmm....a vision...an 800 number: call this number if you think Bush is an asshole.... track this.... asshole...
Sprint and T-Mobile are the two national wireless companies that are not affiliated with any of the companies that have been forking over our phone-call records.
And kudos to Qwest (the Bell incumbent for the Rockies) for telling the NSA to go suck it.
That's right, duke92, and I'm with one of them. Phew.
The EFF filed suit against AT&T Corp in January for this very reason:

Yay Sprint!
Wow, the poor NSA...the dirty phone calls late at night they've had to listen to on my phone! They should totally sell them.
