One More Reason Why Edwards Was Voted Out

Oh this is good...
From Jim Cardle with the Texas Free Enterprise Fund

Any semblance of the vaunted 'conservative control' claimed by many to exist in the Texas State legislature was dealt a serious set back in Tuesday's run-off elections, where another mainstream Democrat was purged by the party's extreme-left wing and at least a hand full of moderate Republicans carried the day in other statehouse races around the state.

With significant amounts of funding stranded on the sidelines due to fear of perceived potential legal repercussions...

WTF? Nice to know conservatives were dealt a blow when a Democratic sellout lost. But talking shit about extreme wings of the party purging the mainstream? HELLO!?! LEININGER! Funding was stranded on the sidelines? Tell that to the million dollar campaigns we saw a month ago.

The dude then goes on to talk in circles and not make any real sense at all. All I can say is, wow, this guy is dumb.

With significant amounts of funding stranded on the sidelines due to fear of perceived potential legal repercussions, with Monday's Special Legislative Session distracting others from being more actively engaged, and with many other entities unwilling to engage for fear of picking the wrong horse and alienating a more moderate winner, the moons were aligned for a motivated & well organized group of education factions to attack the exposed flank of the House Republican membership.

And attack those struggling conservative candidates in the primary run-offs they did -- quite successfully.

Where past close votes in the House were often decided by 2 to 3 votes – or sometimes even decided by a vote of the Speaker -- formerly promised, and yet to be fulfilled, reforms (predominately tax & education related) that initially brought Republicans into the majority now appear to be well short of the votes necessary for passage.

Throw in the just announced challenge – in the form of Senfronia Thompson's (D-Houston) announcement yesterday that she is challenging House Speaker Craddick for that post -- and suddenly the conservative movement many saw unfolding across Texas appears to be open to attacks of being in disarray.

Liberals in Austin, with the assistance of the mainstream press statewide, are sure to have continued traction through November claiming more than a single day's events can actually indicate.

But until Republicans at the state level learn -- as did Republicans at the national level 10 years ago when Newt Gingrich, Dick Armey and others galvanized a movement behind the Contract with America -- that their agenda needs to be tailored to appeal to a broader audience than is currently being done, and be tactically approached in more consumable pieces, one probably can't argue that the conservative movement in Texas has taken two steps forward, and then one back.

History shows one thing clearly though: those who deliver on something and have the courage to be judged on one's record, almost always are re-elected.

Those who do nothing, are run out of office.

"another mainstream Democrat was purged by the party's extreme-left wing"

I'm sure it doesn't fit with an otherwise convenient story line to note that this pro- free trade, pro-life, pro-school choice Democrat was one of those doing the purging. Or has the extreme-right wing moved so far right that those position are now considered "extreme-left wing?"

Morris actively campaigned for Turner's mayoral bid and donated $ to Perry and KBH. sooooo extreme.

Ah, and don't forget his campaign treasurer - a one-time Bush Ranger. Yeah, this was, by far the most left-wing group I've ever been around.
