Don't Get Uppity

justice1.jpg

Well, we've seen it start swirling around. The white folk are all in a twitter that the negroes at Coretta Scott King's funeral had the audacity to speak about politics and injustice. The woman's entire life was about politics and injustice. But, you know, since they don't echo the great platform of propoganda spewed forth by the administration they are inappropriate.

You know it's good when we can link to Rush Limbaugh saying something about it. Is he still hopped up on Oxycontin?

When a force of change and justice dies and you have a national platform to continue their causes past their death it is entirely appropriate and is a further honoring of her legacy. Maybe if it weren't that it was a bunch of white people talking about how out of line the black people were it would be a little different.

*Update* ITPT had the photo where Laura Bush looks like she just ate a turd. Hilarious, click for the popup: View image

» Henry Cuellar isn't alone. Frank Madla is working really hard to be a Republican in Democrat's clothing. Some people are upset that the funeral of one of the most political people in this country was used to make political statements. This just in: Jews

Amen, PD.

I didn't think it was possible, but somehow the worst President in the history of the United States has managed to be an even worse ex-President. Classless as he is clueless.

snrub at February 8, 2006 4:44 PM

Jimmy Carter. A joke.

Wonk at February 8, 2006 4:54 PM

I don't recall Coretta Scott King taking a strong public stand on the Iraq War, but perhaps I just missed it.

newswatching at February 8, 2006 5:39 PM

Yeah, all that talk of peace and justice, that was for another time altogether... it was certainly not relevant to anything currently in the news.

Marie at February 8, 2006 5:56 PM

What an asshole Jimmy Carter is! The nerve of him helping people own their homes! How fucking dare he fly to the West Bank to help oversee the elections! Who the fuck does he think he is, a humanitarian?!?!

Marie at February 8, 2006 6:00 PM

At least criticize people for what they actually say, not what you wish they would say that would be easier to mock.

Not every public platform is an appropriate forum for politicans to call attention to themselves with self-righteous political preening and posturing. That's reserved for Senate committee hearings, not funerals.

newswatching at February 8, 2006 6:20 PM

If you have been to many U.S. Senate Committee hearings, you would know that many of the participants have already been dead for years. If you're not comfortable in a black church, maybe you need to look at that.

The Other Guy at February 8, 2006 8:20 PM

lol. Once more - at least criticize people for what they actually say, etc., etc. Please. But for clarification, I thought the Wellstone rally/funeral was much more over-the-top. And with all due respect, you apparently missed the Alito hearings. Wow, people sure are cranky lately.

If W didn't want to get insulted, he should have stayed in his bubble and not shown up where most of the people were firmly against everything he believes in. The woman being honored worked tirelessly for many years against the type of policies he's trying to force on the public. What the hell did he expect? I guess he thinks every stupid incursion into hostile territory will be met with flowers.

dgw at February 8, 2006 9:31 PM

If someone finds the video clip, please send it because Laura Bush looked like she swallowed a turd when Rev. Lowery was speaking. HILARIOUS.

Pinkdome at February 8, 2006 9:52 PM

The King & Queen are so transparent in that priceless photo: HOW DARE THAT BASTARD CRITICIZE US!

It's easy to assume, given the general thuggery of this malAdministration, the Bushes likely believed their mere presence would dampen direct criticism of the Fascist Right's appetite for blood, racism and kleptocracy. In doing so, they failed to realize the weak-knee'd Democrats on Capitol Hill have no fight in 'em, but THE PEOPLE still do. It was Coretta's funeral - not a Potemkin Village photo-op for Dictator Fuckstick - and, no doubt, she would have approved wholeheartedly.

If the Fascist Pricks don't like it, they need to stick with burying their own and leave the rest of us the fuck alone.

damn.

I love it when liberals get so full of stupid indignation

Wonk at February 9, 2006 9:12 AM

You, sir, are a moron. The inability to express any thought without descending into the "fuck patois" is pathetic.

That is the base of the party folks. Lemmings driving it over the cliff.

snrub at February 9, 2006 9:17 AM

Bush isn't as bad as some about being uncomfortable among a diverse crowd, but he certainly needs work. I'm guessing that it was easier with a few cocktails. That's life. River Oaks, Crawford, Kennebunkport, all await. No riff raff there.

The Other Guy at February 9, 2006 9:39 AM

Are you saying the people at the funeral were riff raff?

Wonk at February 9, 2006 9:50 AM

*Stupid indignation* is a perfect description of the the faces of King George and His Lady. The projection of you neoRighties is as dependable as a sunrise.

"That is the base of the party folks. Lemmings driving it over the cliff," sounds *exactly* like the patois of one very famous Oxycontin addict. Imagine that.

Fascist trolls will be disappointed to learn I no longer profess any party loyalty, but that's an awful lot of nuance for a binary brain to fully grasp.

At any rate, there is no "over the cliff" for the Democratic Party. If and when party leaders ever decide to look up, they'll see the cliff they plunged from a couple of decades back. There's nowhere to go but up.

Arvin Hill at February 9, 2006 10:19 AM

Fascist Trolls. LOL

Go away.

Wonk at February 9, 2006 10:42 AM

"Fascist Trolls. LOL
Go away. "

Yes, we all wish you would go away, dimwit, but like a bad case of crabs, you jus keep coming back.

Locutor at February 9, 2006 12:39 PM

Wonk at February 9, 2006 12:41 PM

Wonk... you should be casting THAT stone. Not with your syphilis and all.
