Y'all all know about the GOP dispute in Swinford's district...the one where the TRP took Annette Carlisle off the ballot. Well, Ms. Carlisle is back on the ballot after the 'activist' courts had to get involved. This story has received a little attention, most recently in an editorial in the DMN. We called the Texas Republican Party this morning to see if they could give us a contact name or web site address for candidate Annette Carlisle. Here's what we got:
TRP: "Hello, Texas Republican Party."
PD: "Hi, I'm looking for a way to contact a candidate? Annette Carlisle? I think she's running in Swinford's district. Do you have a phone number or web site address for her campaign?" (See... all sweet and innocent like)
TRP: "If it's not on our web site, then we don't have it." CLICK
What a rude bitch.
Then, just for fun I called the Texas Democratic Party.
TDP: "Hi, TDP, can you hold for me?" (Wow! They're getting phone calls! Who knew? She was BUSY!)
PD: "Sure, no problem."
TDP: "I'm sorry about that. What can I do for you?"
PD: "I'm looking for a phone number or web site for a candidate. Can you help me?"
TDP: "Sure! Who are you looking for and I can look it up for you!"
Well, there you have it. Also, we'd like to note the candidate listing on the TRP web site is missing some candidates - so the volunteer answering the phones there was totally wrong. But, to the TDP? Uhm, I couldn't even find any candidate links on your web site at all. Uhm...it's 2006, can you update your site please?
In speaking to the WASP Republicans in Midland, they are usually quite nice and polite long as they think you are one-of-them.
However, mention you are an Independent or Democrat and they morph into ugly beasts from Tom Delay nighmares! Tell them you are gay as well and, well, I won't tell you what they turn into, it is just too horrible and frightening to mention...
Imagine the horror in east Texas when the D announced he used to be an R but was changing for the House race against Merritt. Oh, and by the way, he is gay.
There's a big blue link that says "great field of Democratic candidates" on the front page. You've just got to scroll down a bit.
Of course the receptionist at the democrat hq was busy answering the phone - those bill collectors never stop calling.
^ LOL
Anon - those calls don't take long, she just has to tell them that Tina works for the Texas REPUBLICAN Party.
I just commented on "another blog", that the dickhead racists who are afraid of hispanics are on their way to blowing up the Republican party. Shit, Dick Morris pointed it out the other day in The Hill newspaper. The minute men are pussies.
I'm a former Democrat, and am now and Independent...and let me assert that Democrats are just as pissy as the Elephants. If anything, the Democrats are nothing other than self-righteous, "my IQ is higher than the banjo playing idiot Republicans" mentality. Clearly, PD favors the Ds, which is great and everything...but the Rs and the Ds are the same...only with a slight distinction on the issues/platform. I'm proud not to be the lesser of two evils...and am busting the "I" in this great state. I'm tired of the bango-playing bigotry of the Rs, and the ridiculous conspiracy theories of the Ds/
Hmm, anonymous makes some good points. The R's are whores of big business, baptists and the rich, whilst the D's are whores of the unions, teachers and evironmentalists. Both whores are getting old, dried and tired - we need either new whores or a whole new street.
While I'm not proud of the prank the Rs pulled on Carlisle (*dense*), I think the most mean-spirited, bigoted stuff the last few years has come from the Ds -- that's what happens when you assume you're always right without checking to be sure. The Rs should be wary of that.
The Dems are the most mean-spirited and bigoted? DId you watch any of the Prop 2 debate? Are you permanently out of it?
And Anonymous, you want to call out D's for being self-righteous while puffing out your own chest? Talk about hypocritical moral superiority.
Not all Dems/Repubs/Indies are all one way about anything. PD calls out R's a lot, but they also chose a Republican as Texan of the Year. PD wants folks to move beyond their own parties (all parties -- indies included) , stop wastime time and do something.
And so long as no one's doing something, they're going to make fun of all of you.
PD favors their own political viewpoint of what's right and wrong. It's called a desire to see politicians quit towing the party line (R or D) and stand up for what's right. So far, the R's seem to forget that more often than the D's so yes, they get a bit more heat on this blog. But the minute the D's show some absolute corruption and retardation we pick up on it like nobody's business.
PD is a blog that is not a conspiracy theorist party-line blog. We strive to poke fun at the absolute stupidity of politicians and political parties.
While we fail at that sometimes, it's not nearly as often as the elected officials of this state and this nation fail us on a daily basis.
Wasn't this your Texan of the year?:
HOUSE SPEAKER ENDORSES CASTEEL RE-ELECTION
Published: 01-17-06
NEW BRAUNFELS, TEXAS –Speaker Tom Craddick (R-Midland) formally endorsed State Representative Carter Casteel (R-New Braunfels) for re-election to the Texas House today. “I whole-heartedly support Carter Casteel’s decision to continue her service as a state representative, and I wish her the best of luck,” Craddick said.
“I am grateful for Speaker Craddick’s support,” Casteel said. “Tom and I have worked together to advance the Republican Party’s conservative values. We both come from West Texas and were shaped by communities that taught the importance of conviction and integrity. Under his leadership, those principles guide the Texas House of Representatives.”
In January 2003, Tom Craddick, who has served 37 years in the Texas House of Representatives, became the first Republican to be elected speaker in more than 130 years. He was re-elected last year.
“Carter Casteel is a dedicated and loyal public servant to her constituents,” Craddick continued. “The people of House District 73 have a hard working leader in her when it comes to representing their interests here in Austin.”
Casteel is seeking a third term as the state representative for Bandera, Comal, Gillespie and Kendall Counties. An attorney and former public school teacher, Casteel was first elected to the Texas House in November 2002. A New Braunfels resident since 1973, she previously served eight years as Comal County Judge (1990-98) and six years on the Comal Independent School District Board of
Trustees (1984-90).
The statewide primary election is March 7, 2006.
Guess Tommy couldn't find anyone to run against her...
