No MLK Day Holiday for Some

Wylie School District in Collin County will not be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. As the DMN tries to stir us up with Righteous Indignation that apparently the Wylie County ISD is run by a group of white supremecists, it's only Ft. Worth Rep. Lon Burnam that takes the bait. "I hope every kid, in every classroom, all day long is asking the teacher why they're in school today," Mr. Burnam said. "I think it's outrageous."

Maybe kids should be in school on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and there should be statewide school events to educate the youth of today on the courage and patriotism of people like MLK and the civil rights workers of the era. If there is anything we need today it is education and the courage to stand up when we see injustice.

Yes, it is very offensive that the State of Texas has co-mingled the MLK, Jr. Holiday with Confederate Heroes Day and yes, we are sure that somewhere in Texas rednecks that can barely pay their trailer payment are pissed off that MLK even gets a holiday, but it is up to us to promote the lessons that Martin Luther King, Jr. and the other leaders of the civil rights era.

Me, maybe I'll get drunk and yell at honkies all day.

That's the only way to celebrate any holiday. Your not observing anything unless you are wasted yelling "Cracker ass cracker" at every white person you see.

In Lampasas County, we don't get off for MLK Day. We do, however, get off that Friday for the stock show.
