Newsweek reports the timeline of incompetency by the Administration in the Hurricane Katrina mess. It was 6:08 p.m. as Hurricane Katrina was making landfall that the Red Cross Disaster Operations Center first alerted the White House that New Orleans was flooding.
So there we were, glued to the TV, watching a city be obliterated and the White House was busy fundraising in California. Sweet.
Here's one thing we know for sure. On Tuesday, August 30, while Bush, Cheney, and Rice were all still on vacation, another President, Fidel Castro of Cuba, contacted the State Department and offered 1100 doctors who could have been on site the very next day.
Neither Bush, Cheney, nor the shoe-shopping, Broadway-play attending Secretary of State ever responded to that offer.
