Today is Veteran's Day. More than just another bank holiday, it is a day to honor those that we used to honor a hell of a lot more than we do today. We all talk about 'supporting our troops' these days regardless of our feelings about war, but I remember a time when Veteran's Day was a day I would go to a parade and see what I believed to be real heroes walking amongst us.
Our veteran's deserve our respect and admiration and they deserve it without condition. Bravery, courage and sheer badassness on the part of our vets have made this country great. And they'll make us great again.
Thank you.
As a Vietnam-era Navy veteran, I really appreciate the sentiment.
Go Navy! (Air Force, myself -- brat, not active, but still ...) Anyway, I'm back. It was lovely, nice weather, and very touching. Especially the kids. In uniform, I mean. Lord, when did they get so young?
For readers in Houston, there's a parade in downtown at 11:30. I'm going. For the route, go to the Houston Chronicle at http://www.chron.com and click on "Veterans Day closings and parade route."
