Did Y'all See This?

We already referred to the agreement between Dukes and Pitts as mentioned in the Austin paper. I decided to pop up the image the AAS had in the article. The point is now moot because HB3 passed today, but it bears repeating over and over again. Bastard.

You can always trust a Republican to be a sneak, a cheat, and a liar. You can't really be pissed at Pitts for doing this, it's just in his nature.

Shame on Dukes for entering into an agreement with this guy, and shame on her for doing "district business" in France. Be like the rest of us and watch the Tour on OLN.... Sheesh....

Yes, Pitts is a snake. But Dukes needs to be here doing her J-O-B!

Time for her to lose her seat to someone with their priorities straight.

I'd say in general, Repubs stick to the letter of the law more consistently than Dems. Where I'm from, breaking your word means something, and Pitts may well be hurt by this at home. I'd vote him out.

Though at least he showed up instead of running off to OK or NM in violation of his oath...

Give both of them the boot. If you can't do your damn job for a whole 4 months and a couple of specials then what are you there for. And if you can't keep your word then your not worth the paper you signed your name to. Send 'em both home.

WG, you are right. We can all count on Republicans to raise our taxes, cower to Craddick and fuck everyone over every chance they get. Dawnna Dukes is one of our best legislators and while I am not defending her absence, Craddick gets what he wants. It's not her fault nor Trey's or Eiland's that Craddick strong armed the spineless, gutless Republican moderates who want oh so badly to return to office in 2007 without primary opposition as punishment for not doing what they are told.
As for that crack about our Killer D's, you've already displayed your lack of knowledge concerning basic parliamentary procedure, so it's no surprise that you consulted your Talking Points Memo to attack Democrats for standing up for Texas. Republicans routinely disappear when told to do so because they lack conviction for doing what is right for Texas.

Marie at July 8, 2005 12:01 PM

Okay seriously, the killer D's were nothing but a bunch of whiney babies, who just couldn't handle the fact that they were going to lose. It sucks that the republicans didn't handle redistricting the right way and jerrymandered the shit out of it, but didn't the D's do the same damn thing ten years prior?

Kim at July 8, 2005 2:11 PM

Nope though I have heard Gib Lewis say it was talked about(1991). In 1981 the legislature was demo and the gov was repub. Texas got two seats after protecting the incumbents of both parties there was a new D and a new R seat. In 1991 the leg. and gov were both Ds and after protecting all the incumbents the two new seats were both Ds. The court followed this precedent and gave the new seats to the Rs. What was done in 2003 was vastly different from previous Congressional redistrictings.

poindexter at July 8, 2005 4:48 PM

In 2002, Texas was 17-15 D-R despite voting strongly R statewide. This was an abberation caused by the power of entrenched incumbents. The redistricting corrected this, but went a little too far IMO. (I preferred some of the earlier proposed plans.)

And Kim, yes, the "killer Ds" were indeed pathetic.

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
