Rep. Garnet Coleman goes on the offensive. Coleman has launched a campaign against the Republican's tax proposal using his own campaign funds for the radio spots that started airing in Houston today. They'll begin in Austin tomorrow. Coleman says he doesn't have the $400,000 warchest to create a massive campaign like the governor has, but he's doing what he thinks he can. Listen to the spot here.
"No matter what the Governor and the Republican leadership say, the plans they are trying to ram through the legislature would amount to a huge tax increase on our families," Coleman said. "Even worse, not a penny of the higher taxes we'll pay will go to our schools, our teachers, or other critical state needs."Now, what other Dems will help out with a similar campaign in their districs? Or hell, better yet, what Republicans will be brave enough to launch their own campaigns! Visit Rep. Coleman's website and see how long it takes them to feel out the grassroots support and put up a way to donate and get this radio spot airing statewide!
This fiasco is the poorest excuse for governing I can remember. I cannot even muster my usual lame attempts at humor when the GOOD news is the Senate's version is only a half-cent increase in the sales tax vs. the House's more draconian screw-the-poor one-cent. And they're still increasing the tax on alcoholic beverages, too, aren't they? Now, thems fightin' words!
Notice how we keep ignoring the tax on alcoholic beverages? We're using the "Ignore it and it will go away" train of thought on that one. As Scarlett O'Hara said, "I can't think about that today, I'll go crazy if I do."
No kidding, PD. I really can't afford an extra $15,000 a year.
Sorry this is bad but this appears to be a strange twist to an old story...a windmill fights the rest. By the way I like Garnet.
whoa. that has got to be one of the weirdest radio spots ever. starts off with Disney sound effects record noises in the background then inexplicably and abruptly segues into advertising studio rock band muzack. too bad coleman's voice is totally irritating (albeit not as irritating as others). kudos for taking it to the streets. but really, he shouldn't single out the GOP. he should single out that MoFo perry and the speaker. there are at least a few GOoPers that have their heads on straight about this. and this is a real opportunity for the Ds to team up with the Rs and stir some sh*t up.
