Andy Brown fires a shot across the bow of Todd Baxter with a press release today condemning Baxter's votes in the Regular Session. (after the jump)
We expect lots of challengers will use the Special as a great opportunity to just beat the incumbents over the head. Lord knows, they'll have plenty of material!
BROWN TO BAXTER: 'IN SPECIAL SESSION, WILL YOU AGAIN PUSH FOR RECORD
TAX HIKES AND A PRIVATE-SCHOOL VOUCHER SCHEME?'
(AUSTIN) -- Democratic State Rep. candidate Andy Brown today called on
his opponent to tell Austin and Travis County voters whether he thinks
imposing record tax hikes and siphoning billions of tax dollars out of
local public schools to fund a private-school voucher scheme should be
part of the agenda of the special legislative session.
Baxter voted for HB3, the biggest tax bill in Texas history, during
the regular legislative session. Baxter also voted for a
private-school voucher bill pushed by his major campaign contributors
during the final days of the failed regular session.
"After voting to impose record taxes on middle-class Texans, Todd
Baxter still couldn't find a penny of new money for Austin schools,"
Brown said. "But he had no trouble when it came to voting in favor of
a risky scheme to siphon billions of tax dollars out of our local
classrooms."
Brown is a successful local attorney and community advocate who grew
up in Austin and attended public schools here. He is mounting an
aggressive race for the House District 48 seat won by Baxter in 2002.
This is really heartening to see someone get right up in Baxter's face and challenge him on his voting record. Now if they will just try to hold him accountable for his role in the DeLay campaign finance scandals.
Successful local attorney? Since when has he done ANYTHING except hang around on the fringes of Texas politics and wait for a spot to open up? What relevant and non-political experience does he bring to hardworking Austin families? And what kind of family has he built?
Hey Todd...quit reading my fucking blog.
Baxter and his supporters should be careful about hinting that Andy Brown lacks family values. Glass houses, y'know?
Wait, wait, wait, so only married-types with 2.5 kids and a yellow lab can be state reps? Watch it!
This is a great press release and shows that Andy Brown may be the best candidate in that race. On message, on policy point, on target.
