Congressmen Lloyd Doggett, Lamar Smith and Michael McCaul are asking for President Bush's 2006 budget to include $1 million in funding for the demolition of the Intel building in downtown Austin. Apparently, the new federal courthouse that is supposed to go there can't get started until this eyesore is torn down.
In case you aren't familiar, Intel had grandiose plans to build a big fancy headquarters in downtown Austin but pulled out after getting a concrete skeleton up. It's a humiliating reminder of Austin's great Tech Bust of the 90's.
I still say they should just put a roof on it and put Liberty Lunch there.
