And The Award For Best "Announcement" Press Release Goes To...

David Kliemann for outstanding achievement in the field of populism and railing against insider politics in Austin. The Quorum Report has the press release.

Award was based on the following content:

However, last week, on Tuesday, June 7th at around 11:30 in the morning, I received a phone call from Senator Todd Staples.

He asked me to drop out of this race. He said this senate seat and I quote, "Has been promised to another man." According to Staples, who is not going to run for the senate again, he and many in Austin have already hand-picked his replacement.

To whom has the seat been promised?

Full release below:

"Back Room Politics" Are Alive and Well in East Texas

I come to you, the people, to let you know that I will be seeking the Office of Texas State Senate, District 3.

Because I have worked on many issues that directly affect water, agriculture, and education, I have been asked by many people throughout East Texas to run for this office. This was a decision my family, friends, and I thought long and hard about, and I always felt it was ultimately our decision to make.

Ladies and gentleman, I donĂ¢??t know about you, but I thought our forefathers formed the foundation of our government many years ago to be "OF THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE."

To think that we would allow the next senator from our district to be decided by politicians in Austin is a slap in the face to us all - every homeowner, landowner, taxpayer, businessmen, and veterans who fought to give us this right to seek office.

This is not about being a Republican or a Democrat, a liberal or a conservative, a businessman or a farmer. This is about "good ole boy smoking mirrors Texas politics", where Austin dictates who our future elected officials will be.

A vote for me will be a vote of, for, and by the people. Otherwise, your vote will be for business as usual in Austin.

My family has never ran away from a fight when we know with every fiber of our soul that we are right - and we are not about to start now.

I still believe that "good guys win". I guess that John Wayne spirit is still alive and well in our family.

Yes - I am seeking the office of Texas Senate District 3, and when elected, I will do everything in my power to represent you well in Austin.

It may have been promised to TXDOT Commissioner Robert Nichols, who announced last week he was running.

I think it is kind of odd to hand someone you don't want to run such a great campaign plank to run on.

Then Kilemann said, "If you vote for me, all of your wildest dreams will come true."

Frank Denton of Conroe has a interest, also. Nichols, however, would logically fit the description of the one being 'hand-picked.'

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
