And Now a Word about Women

Annie's List held a fundraiser in Austin tonight at the Bob Bullock Museum. Al Franken was the keynote speaker. (Wow, that sounded just like a newspaper's account of the evening)

Here's what I remember. Annie's List raises money to get more women candidates elected to office to fight for women's issues. Good. Mark Strama wasn't there because he was on the Floor debating HB 3. Bad.

I also remember this: Al Franken said (I'm paraphrasing)

There is a lot of bias in the mainstream meda, a laziness bias, a 'pack' bias, a bias against making a profit. Asking if there is a liberal bias in the media is like asking Al Quaida (how are we spelling that now?) if they use to much oil in their hummus. That's beside the point. The point is the bias is what's killing us.

We don't agree with everything Al said. We do agree that there may be a pack mentality. Hell, there's a pack mentality with political weblogs. It's the nature of the news cycle. But, we do think that people deserve the real news. When our elected officials lie to us, someone needs to be brave enough to stand up and say, "LIAR!" and that is the fact.

This doesn't apply so much to the Texas Lege because we haven't caught anyone in an out and out lie...yet. But, it does apply on the national level and we (ok..is it just me?) desperately want the mainstream media to stand up for us and shout, "LIAR!"

Where are you?
